Ctg Jubo League man who fired at protesters held

Another Jubo League man who opened fire from a shotgun on students and protesters on August 4 in New Market area in Chattogram has been arrested by police from Satkhira district.
Towhidul Islam Farid, 32, was arrested on Friday night from Kamolnagar area of Satkhira and was brought to Chattogram yesterday morning.
Local sources said Towhid is a close aid of former CCC ward councillor for Chandgaon Esrarul Haque.
However, police failed to recover his firearm with which he opened fire on protesters.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kazi Tarek Aziz of CMP told The Daily Star, “During investigation, police found Towhid shot nearly 28 rounds of bullets on protesters during the attack on August 4.”
However, the police officer denied knowing Towhid’s political affiliation, saying that they are working on this issue.
“We found that Towhid has been accused in 12 cases including five murder cases, extortion case, violence and robbery,” added the ADC.
ADC Tarek said police are trying to recover the firearm.
